Vienna speaks all the languages - Wiens Wirtschaft spricht alle Sprachen

A campaign called Wiens Wirtschaft spricht alle Sprachen was launched in 2009 in Vienna. The starting point of the campaign was the fact that one third of all the entrepreneurs in the city have migrant background and they clearly form an important part of the city’s economy. However, according to the city’s evaluation, the potential of the entrepreneurs from immigrant communities was not used completely because of lack of support and information from the city’s administration, mainly due to language barrier. The campaign Wiens Wirtschaft spricht alle Sprachen was created to change this situation through seminars and consultations for entrepreneurs – not only in German, but also in other languages (e. g. Russian, Turkish, Serbian). The campaign also included posters and leaflets informing all the inhabitants of Vienna about the importance of immigrants and their contribution to the city’s life.

Wuppertal – Partizipation Plus

Project Partizipation Plus follows a successful project Das Netzwerk Partizipation which was carried out between 2008 and 2010 in the German city of Wuppertal. The goal was to improve the situation of asylum seekers for whom it was almost impossible to access the labour market. This caused deterioration of their financial, social and psychological situation.

The project Das Netzwerk Partizipation was launched by the city’s administration and the realisation included also local non-profit organisations. Current project, Partizipation Plus, includes two more cities, Remscheid and Solingen, and the main activities are employment advisory, qualification courses and German courses.

 Cafe Xenos

Cafe Xenos is a project realised in one of the Finnish regions, Southern Ostrobothnia. The aim of the project is to mediate contact between immigrants who are looking for a job and companies that are looking for employees in the region. Many companies in the region are planning to expand to the international market – and therefore they can make good use of immigrants’ cultural and language skills. The project also includes seminars for immigrants and other meetings that facilitate networking.
